How to Make a Homemade Daily Moisturiser
Fed up with spending lots on Anti Ageing Facial oil Serums? How about making your own homemade daily Moisturiser?
Yes really! You can make your own Anti-ageing serum for a lot less money and make it tailored to your skin needs.
(If this post contains affiliate links please see our full disclosure policy although I have to say I tried really hard to make it interesting and even I struggled to write it so if you really must read it you can find it here)
What are homemade Facial oils made of?
Essential oils
These are distilled oils from various plants, for example, Lavender essential oil. You want a steam distilled essential oil for quality not chemically distilled. You should always use Essential oils diluted on the skin never directly on the skin.
Although I make the exception with Lavender essential oil. I only use this undiluted on any burn/scald that has not broken the skin.
One time I accidentally tipped a pot of potatoes which were ready to drain after boiling directly on my leg! After ice packs and lavender, I didn’t even have a blister or mark on my skin the next day. I can tell you it was PAINFUL!
If you don’t want to buy many essential oils make sure you at least buy Lavender as I do not know what I would do without it!
Carrier Oils
These are pressed nuts, plants or seeds, for example, Oil olive generally the best quality is cold pressed as it any heat can denature the properties of the oil in the extraction process so cold pressed is best.
When you are making up Facial oils stick to a dilution of 5% with Essential oils and 95% of Carrier oils.
Where should you buy Essential oils?
There are lots of companies out there to buy Essential oils online.
If you want to try a few different brands then I recommend going to Amazon.
It comes down to personal preference and also what you think of the company.

Why make your Own Facial oil?
I have been making my own facial oils and serums for the last 15 years for myself and my mother. I have also tried my hand a making creams and lotions.
My only reservation to making creams and lotions is that in order to preserve them because you have to add water you need to add a preservative!
I prefer to stay away from Preservatives on my skin as much as possible so I go with Oils.
Most people would imagine that Facial oils could be greasy – that depends on which Carrier oil you use to make up your oils.
They most definitely won’t clog up your pores and cause breakouts. The beauty industry likes to wave this myth around a lot. Most of the issues are to do with stripping your skin of its own natural oils and causing bacterial to get in there.
I want to use my own facial oils so I know what is in them and I am not putting a thousand different chemicals and preservatives on my face including horrible Parabens.
Just have a look at what it is your regular moisturiser frightening isn’t it!
For instance you wouldn’t want to use Castor oil on your serum as it would take for every and a day to sink in! And you would definitely feel it was greasy!
On the other hand its great as a cleansing oil because it takes dirty away with it!
If you want an in-depth book about all things Essential oils and recipes for yourself and home then this is THE book to buy.
If you don’t believe me have a look at some of the 5 star reviews!
This is my go to book for information on Essential oils and I am a pharmacist by trade!

Why should you make up your own Beauty Products?
This saves you lots of money!
You absolutely know what is in your own products instead of a long list of scary ingredients – Parabens is one ingredients used as a preservative that can mimic oestrogen and disrupt your endocrine system.
You don’t need to use a lot of the serum / facial oil each time. Less is more! You can get away with a bean size amount or slightly more gently rubbed over your face.
