It can be a challenge when you start making crochet flowers but this flower is super easy so don’t worry you should manage it without an issue.

You just need to know how to crochet some basic stitches before you begin.

You need to be familiar with the following stitches :

Chain stitch or magic circle

Double crochet (dc) UK or single crochet (sc) US

Slip stitch (sl)

Half treble (htr)

Treble (tr)

The design for the flower is free on the blog for you to use. You can use it for anything that you want.

If you want to make things to sell then feel free. It is a quick make so it would be a great starter project and quick too if you are time poor.

Once you get the hang of it you can make a bunch of them in different colours and decorate lots of things.

Materials for the Crochet flower pattern

Crochet hooks – size 3 or larger if you want a bigger flower using a larger hook is easier if you are a beginner try a size 4 to 5.

Most affordable crochet cotton in the UK is Rico cotton which you can buy in the USA here. This is the one I used for this pattern but this one is just as nice too with a lovely sheen. If you want to push the boat out then cascade yarn is just gorgeous but expensive!

Yellow crochet cotton

Blue crochet cotton

White crochet cotton

Tulip or Clover hook size 3 or 3.5

Crochet pattern in both UK and US terms along with a picture pattern as well if you don’t like written patterns.

STEP 2 DECIDE ON YOUR COLOUR COMBINATIONS

This pattern uses three colours for the flowers.

Make sure you are happy to know how to attach new threads and either sew in or crochet in ends.

STEP 3 START THE CROCHET CHAIN

I will be using UK crochet terms refer to the table above for conversions to US terms.

Double crochet into the either the chain or magic circle and close the ring with a slip stitch into the first double crochet yes it will be tricky to do with the thinner yarn but keep trying.

Either start using a magic circle ( I never seemed to manage this ) so I have always used a chain.

Depending on how comfortable you feel either use a magic circle so you don’t need a chain or crochet a chain.

Start a new yarn colour for the next round of stitches.

STEP 4 INCREASE STITCHES FOR THE NEXT ROUND

With the new yarn colour you are going to increase the size of the flower.

Into the top of each double crochet you are going to double crochet not one stitch but two stitches.

STEP 5 MAKE THE LOOPS FOR THE PETALS

With the same coloured yarn you are going to create the loops for the petal stitches to go in.

This seems like it would be difficult but it’s not.

First chain enough to replicate a treble stitch and also the loop then miss two of the double crochets and treble into the third double crochet.

Continue making a chain the missing two double crochet stitches then crocheting a treble into the top of the third double crochet till you get to teh end of the row.

Slip stitch into the top of the chain that makes the first treble stitch.

You should have 8 loops now.

STEP 6 TIME TO CROCHET THE PETALS

Change colour to the yarn for the petals in my case blue.

First double crochet into the first loop then half treble then treble then do two chain stitches and basically reduce the size of the petal again by doing another treble, half treble and double crochet now you have finished your first petal.

Keep going round till you have finished all eight petals.

Guess what you have finished your first flower.

STEP 7 TIDY UP THE ENDS

If you need to sew in the crochet tails and that’s your first of many flowers done.
